The location

Our home, constructed between 1996 and 1998 is situated on Agistri Island, vis-à-vis the larger and better-known Aegina Island in the Saronic Gulf, about 35 km linear distance from Athens' port of Piraeus.

Agistri is 12 square kilometer in size, a small island with surprisingly lush vegetation, and
with little tourism as of yet.

How to get there:

  • Flight to Athens Airport, taxi or shuttle bus to ferry terminal at Piraeus Harbor. Hourly ferry service during the summer. Trip takes 1 - 2 hours.
  • By car or train to Italy (Ancona, Venice, Brindisi), then to Patras via car ferry, on to Piraeus (via the Peloponnesus).
  • From Skala's harbor it takes a 10-15 minute walk or a short island taxi ride to our house in Metochi.
  • A bus shuttle runs between the island villages several times a day.

There are four villages on the island:
Skala, Milos, Limenaria and Metochi, the rest of the island is uninhabited and forested.

Our traditional island-style home is situated in Metochi, a quaint, quiet, and secluded village that has next to no tourism.

The home is perched on a hill, yet a mere 500 m from Skala's sandy beach.
Due to its location, the water quality of Agistri is excellent.

Leisure and shopping opportunities in Skala:

  • Bicycle, moped, and motorcycle rental
  • Jeep rental
  • Supermarkets
  • Baker
  • Butcher

Exploring the island on your own:

  • There are many beaches, inlets and
great spots for swimming and diving
as well as some good local taverns to be discovered.
  • Excellent hiking on the island

Emergencies:

  • A pharmacy is located on the way to Milos. A physician has office hours in
each village. For serious emergencies the nearest hospital is on Aegina
