Obermaubach is located at the outlet of the reservoir in the upper Maubacher Rureifel and the Eifel National Park. The train from Obermaubach is on the opposite side of the dam. The town is surrounded on three sides by Eifel mountains. On the heights are the places Nideggen, Bergstein and Bogheim. down the Rur is Untermaubach. The historical roots date back to the 12th century.

- Wasserburg route connects more than 130 castles at the edge of the Eifel and in the Cologne bay.
- Kaiser- Route : From Aachen to Paderborn.
- D - Route 4 : Mittelland Route : From Aachen over Bonn and Siegen, Erfurt, Jena and Chemnitz to Zittau.
- D - Route 7 : pilgrim route: From Aachen via Cologne, Dusseldorf, Duisburg, Münster, Osnabrück, Bremen and Hamburg to Flensburg.
