Europe > Greece > Crete > Pitsida / Herakleion

With approximately 700 inhabitants Pitsidia is the largest village in the region, which is also the administrative of Matala, where only very few people live in wintertime. The former fishermen and farmer village Pitsidia with its narrow lanes and colourful gardens is situated near to Komo Beach. It still offers a kind of the old Matala flair from the seventies.Pitsidia has kept its originality and the inhabitants are well known for their typical Cretan hospitality. Although many artists found a new home here, agriculture is still the main source of income of the village. Olive trees and the production of the oil, cultivation of wine and also the fishery still define everyday life. In many small businesses you can buy these products.
