Depending on interest you can take short or longer trips using public transportation, taxi, bicycle, or on foot. A trip to Cotillio on the west coast leads through typical picturesque island villages such as Villaverde, Lajares, and La Oliva. The Cueva del Llano cave in Villaverde created from a volcanic pipe is well worth a visit, as is the famous and grandiose mansion “Casa de los Coroneles” in Oliva. Without a doubt this mansion with palace-like dimensions and elegance is one of the most important symbols of the cultural history of Fuerteventura and of great architectural value. It gives testimony to the wealth of the former ruling class. The village El Cotillo is growing with increasing tourism. There are many fish restaurants where you can enjoy fresh fish with the famous “papas arrugadas” and the delicious “mojo” sauce. Also, there are many cafes and bars.
